"Omizu-okuri" is a Shinto ritual held annually on March 2nd at Jinguji Temple in Obama City, Fukui Prefecture, preceding the "Omizutori" ritual at Todaiji Temple's Nigatsudo Hall in Nara. It heralds the arrival of spring in Wakasa.

Monks clad in white ceremonial robes pour purified water into the river.

This "water" refers to the sacred water offered before the Buddha at Nigatsudo Hall in Todaiji Temple.

The ritual originates from a legend that the deity of Wakasa, who was late for the Shunie ceremony at Todaiji Temple, promised to send the pure water of Wakasa as an apology.
